According to the Detroit Free Press, Kenya Bell was charged with assault with a deadly weapon after she allegedly attacked her husband with a box cutter at his home near Flint, Michigan, Sunday.
Prosecutor David Leyton told the Free Press Charlie Bell suffered only minor injuries. He also told the Detroit paper two children were present at the time of the attack.
Kenya Bell, 35, who was crowned Miss Michigan USA in 2001, was reportedly released from jail Monday.
Her estranged husband joins a growing list of professional athletes who have fallen victim to alleged domestic attacks in recent weeks.
ANOTHER ONE…
Denver Broncos defensive end Jason Hunter is recovering from a stab wound to his left shoulder, which he received last week during an incident that allegedly involved his 23-year-old girlfriend.
Police told the Detroit Free Press that Hunter’s girlfriend stabbed him. A 911 call was placed after 9 a.m. ET but police couldn’t say when the stabbing occurred.
The Broncos said in a statement they were aware of the incident and trying to learn more.
“Our thoughts are with Jason, and we are hopeful he makes a quick recovery,” the team said.
“Out of respect for his privacy, we will not have additional comment on the matter at this time.”
Hunter, 27, played last season for the Broncos, and was with the Detroit Lions (2009) and Green Bay Packers (2006-2008) before that.
Hunter’s agent, Robert B. Walker said on Twitter: “I’ve spoken to my client Jason Hunter and it’s a very minor injury, just a few stitches. He’ll be fine. We thank you for your prayers.”
AND ANOTHER ONE…
Miami Dolphins wide receiver Brandon Marshall was stabbed in the abdomen with a kitchen knife last month. His wife faces charges over the incident.
A year ago, upon first joining the Dolphins, wide receiver Brandon Marshall credited his new wife, Michi, for a fresh outlook that included a “calmer” demeanor. She was turning his life around, he said.
The results of a domestic dispute Friday night — which added another chapter to a past marred by similar controversy — has now painted a very different picture.
Marshall spent Friday night at Broward General Hospital’s trauma unit after undergoing minor surgery to repair a stab wound to the abdomen, and his wife was being booked into jail a mile away on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
By Saturday afternoon, Marshall was released and is expected, Dolphins team sources said, to make a full recovery within three to four weeks. His wife posted bail set at $7,500. But this saga is far from over.
Details of a police report instead reveal potentially messy legal issues ahead.
According to the report, Marshall’s wife “armed herself with a kitchen knife” and stabbed him in the abdomen. Marshall, 27, gave police a different version of events, claiming he slipped and fell on a broken vase.
