Stanley Wright, Jazzman & Father of N’Bushe Found Dead in Trunk

major media news Suleiman Hakim found dead

World renowned Brooklyn jazz musician who had been missing since last week was found dead Tuesday inside of a storage trunk in his basement, according to police and relatives.

Stanley Wright, 61, missing since Thursday, was found by police about 3:30 a.m. after his son, Khalil, called them to search the home on Chauncey St. in Brownsville.
Police haven’t classified Wright’s death as a homicide, but his family suspects foul play.
“This is crazy?” said his great-niece, Minnie Wright. “Who would do something like that to him? He was a musician. He was a great man.”
Wright, who performed under the name Suleiman-Hakim, was found in an old black trunk once used to store his mother’s clothes. Relatives said Wright’s car, a grey Jeep, is missing, but that several valuable instruments were left in the home.
Wright once taught music at a Brooklyn junior high school, and his talents as a jazz musician allowed him to play at famous venues like Lincoln Center, his family said. He played the bass, piano and drums. The jazzman was the father of three children, including actress N’Bushe Wright who co-starred in the movie “Blade” in 1998 and also appeared in “Dead Presidents” in 1995.
“He was always a good person,” Daniels said. “He was very particular about who he dealt with and invited inside his home.”
What a tragic event!
