Don’t get your hopes up if you’re expecting to head to the theaters to take in the widely anticipated Tupac movie, because it may not make it to the silver screen after all.
Sources say award-winning film director, Antoine Fuqua, isn’t feeling the script, and is considering walking away from the project which was green-lighted by Morgan Creek back in February. It is unknown whether Morgan Creek will simply replace Fuqua and run with a less than perfect script or just shelve the project indefinitely.
The film was slated to start production late spring/early summer and was to be produced by James G. Robinson, David Robinson and LT Hutton. The screenplay written by Steve Bagatourian, Stephen J. Rivele & Christopher Wilkinson and distribution by Universal Pictures distributes in North America and co-distributes with Morgan Creek International overseas.
TuPac’s mother, Afeni Shakur, may not be too concerned if the biopic is shelved. Know why? Because Afeni is set to serve as executive producer of another film based on a screenplay penned by Pac while serving time.. It’s the work of art TuPac himself reportedly wrote, while he was locked up in New York’s Clinton Correctional Facility, back in 1995.
That film has landed an $11M budget, and is set to begin production during the first quarter 2012.
I’m hoping both of these films come to happen, and will pay to see both. Know why? Because TuPac is one of the greatest rappers of all time.
Don’t you agree?
