Sony Productions has given the green light to a remake of the classic 1970′s Motown film, Sparkle. It will be written and directed by Mara and Salim Akil (behind The Game and Girlfriends). The film is often compared to Dreamgirls, but producer Debra Chase-Martin wants people to know that they are quite different.
“The plots are very different. I mean, Sparkle’s much darker,” she says. “It has some real things about ‘what price are you willing to pay for success.” One of the orginal film’s stars, Lonette McKee, made an appearance on The Game as Jason’s mother, so she will probably be seen in the remake.
You down to cop a ticket?
