Mayor Gray is expected to proclaim May 5 "Raheem DeVaughn Day" and present him with the key to the city in a ceremony, which will take place on the steps of Gray's offices in the Wilson Building, in the nation's capital at 3PM EST.
DeVaughn is being acknowledged for his efforts in promoting HIV/AIDS awareness in the local community, and his continued attempt to promote interest in the arts amongst local children and teens.
"I am humbled and truly honored to be the recipient of The Key to the City and my own day by the District Of Columbia. I am very thankful to Washington, DC for their loyalty and support," Raheem DeVaughn told AllHipHop.com.
Raheem DeVaughn Day is scheduled to take place on May 5, the singer's 35th birthday.
DeVaughn's Grammy-nominated third album 'The Love & War MasterPeace' was released on March 2, 2010, featuring appearances by fellow D.C. area rapper Wale, Ludacris, Jill Scott, Anthony Hamilton, Bilal and Damian Marley.
