AMY WINEHOUSE FOUND DEAD TODAY AT 27 !!!!!!!!!!
LONDON (KTLA) -- Singer Amy Winehouse has been found dead in her London home, after years of a public battle with drugs and alcohol.
She was 27-years-old.
Police said they had found Winehouse's body about 11 a.m. Easter Daylight Time in her flat in Camden Square, north London, after being called by ambulance services.
"Inquiries continue into the circumstances of the death at this early stage. It is being treated as unexplained," a police spokesman said.
They said they were treating the death as unexplained.
"Everyone who is involved with Amy is shocked and devastated," a spokesman for Winehouse told CNN. "Our thoughts are with her family and friends. The family will issue a statement when ready."
Police cordoned off the street outside Winehouse's home, where about 20 onlookers gathered along with media photographers and camera crews.
Winehouse was born on September 14, 1983, to a Jewish family of musicians.
She was discovered by soul singer Tyler James at the age of 16 and in 2003 her debut album "Frank" was released, to general acclaim.
As a singer, Winehouse had a breakout year in 2008, winning several Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year, Song of the Year for her hit "Rehab." Her album "Back in Black" won Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year.
But shortly after becoming a worldwide sensation, her addictions seemed to overshadow her burdgeoning talent.
Winehouse publicly battled drug and alcohol addiction, tyring several time to get clean in rehab.
She canceled her European tour after a performance in Serbia where she stumbled, slurred lyrics and allowed her backup singers to sing lead before ending the show early.
Her rocky marriage to Blake Fielder-Civil took a toll on the singer's career and seemed to fuel her drug problems. The couple divorced in 2009 after a two years filled by drug addiction and arrests.
Winehouse's parents went public with their efforts to help her, telling the London Telegraph in 2009 that she was on the road to recovery.
Minutes after news of Winehouse's death hit the Internet, Twitter exploded with comments from around the globe.
"Devastated. I spent extraordinary times with Amy," tweeted model and burlesque artist Dita Von Teese. "She sang for me once for hours, it was the most beautiful& touching thing. A huge loss. She was the closet thing we have ever had to Billie Holiday, she was a true soulful talent. I'm so sad. I hope she is at peace."
Many commenters took to Twitter to express their admiration for Winehouse's talent and sadness for her struggles and passing.
"Just read on AP news..Amy Winehouse died," tweeted actress Marlee Matlin. "Shocking that such a young but troubled talent died. Tragic. Thoughts with her family. RIP."
