First it was rumored that Will Smith would take on the lead role. Then whispers went around that Jamie Foxx was offered the part. Now it has been confirmed that Samuel Jackson will be the man to play a slave named Stephen with Jamie Foxx playing Django in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained:
The actor will play a slave called Stephen in Quentin Tarantino’s western, a loose re-interpretation of Sergio Corbucci’s 1966 film Django. This will be the fifth time Jackson and Tarantino have worked together, having collaborated on Pulp Fiction, Jackie Brown, KIll Bill Vol 2, and an uncredited role as a narrator in Inglorious Basterds.Django Unchained, a Western about a freed slave in search of his slave wife in the Old South, is scheduled to hit movie theaters on December 25, 2012.
Jamie Foxx will take on the lead role of freed slave Django, haven beaten out Will Smith for the part. Leonardo DiCaprio will play the villain Calvin Candie, a plantation owner who owns Django’s wife. [Source]
