NOPD officers arrested Los Angeles Lakers forward Derrick Caracter sometime after 1:00 a.m. this morning and charged him with simple battery, public drunkenness and resisting arrest.
Caracter entered the Canal St IHOP restaurant at around 1:00 a.m. this morning, visibly drunk and belligerent. Due to Caracter’s state, IHOP employees denied him service and requested that leave the premises of the restaurant. According to an NOPD press release, Caracter became aggressive and – at one point during the altercation – shoved a pregnant IHOP cashier.
Caracter continued to resist subsequent requests to exit the restaurant, which ultimately lead to the officer on detail calling for backup. Because Caracter continued be uncooperative, NOPD officers arrested him.
The NOPD press release also reports that the Public Affairs Office is attempting to get video surveillance footage of the incident as recorded by an IHOP camera.
